Emergency Contact Information

Safety is a top priority at ULI. As an international student in BC, it is important to know how to contact emergency services and access support when needed. Below is a guide to essential emergency contact information.

Emergency Services (911)

  • Call 911 for police, fire, or medical emergencies.

  • Available 24/7 across Canada.

  • Free to call from any phone, including mobile phones and payphones.

  • Provide your location and nature of the emergency when calling.

Visit BC Emergency Health Services When to Call 9-1-1 website to learn more about the examples and procedures of calling 911.

Non-Emergency Contacts

  • Police Non-Emergency: For reporting crimes that are not urgent (theft, lost items, noise complaints).

    • Richmond RCMP: 604-278-1212

    • Vancouver Police: 604-717-3321

    • Burnaby RCMP: 604-646-9999

  • Health and Medical Assistance
In Canada, you can visit a walk-in clinic for your health issues. If you do not have MSP, you can still see a doctor, but you will have to pay for the visit. That is why having health insurance is important.
To find a clinic near you, search online. Hospitals in Canada are only for emergencies. If you have a broken bone, a serious injury, severe pain, or a serious illness, you can go to the hospital. You can also look online for the nearest hospital or call 911 in an emergency.
    When visiting a hospital, bring:

    • Your study permit and passport

    • Proof of medical insurance (BC Service Card [MSP card] or private insurance card)

If you are sick or injured and do not know what to do, call HealthLink BC at 811 to speak with a nurse anytime, day or night.

  • 811 – HealthLink BC: Speak with a registered nurse for non-emergency health concerns. (Translation services are available in over 130 languages.)

  • Poison Control Centre: Call 1-800-567-8911 or 604-682-5050, 24/7 assistance for poisoning or overdose concern. (Telephone interpreting in over 150 languages available)
